The Skull Island Termite, Truxtermopsis difficilis, is a unique, omnivorous termitid termite from the lowland plains of Skull Island.
Skull Island is home to a unique species of omnivorous termites that build vast castle-like mounds rivaling the biggest of the island’s dinosaurs in size. A typical colony might house as many as five million individuals. Several species of dinosaur make use of the fiercely protective insects to combat skin parasites. Vertebrates like Ferrucutus actively provoke the Skull Island termites to swarm over their hides by rubbing themselves against mounds. While their own skins are tough enough to withstand the termites’ bites, unwelcome dermal parasites on the hides are not so lucky.
Predators of the termites include termito'sauruses.
Termite Castes[]
Skull Island termite colonies are composed of many different castes, each with very specific functions. Slim, winged reproductives fly out to breed. Two varieties of soldier exist for defense, broad-headed warriors with powerful jaws and special snoot-nosed individuals able to squirt noxious chemicals at attackers.
